Massage Therapy FAQs

Massage therapy is an effective way to relieve pain, recover from injuries, and live an overall healthier life. To learn more about the benefits of making massage therapy a regular part of your self-care routine, look at some of the most common questions and their answers from our team at Center in Tucson, AZ.

What does a massage therapist do?

A massage therapist is skilled at treating issues in the muscles and other soft tissues through touch. We begin by discussing your health and wellness goals as well as your medications, habits, stress levels, and any concerns. This discussion will help us develop a treatment plan. From there, your massage therapist will target different areas to address specific concerns or will provide a full-body massage.

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

In addition to reducing stress, relieving tension, and inducing a relaxing mindset, massage therapy offers several benefits. It improves blood flow, which can promote health and healing throughout the body. It lowers the heart rate and blood pressure as well as boosts immunity.

When used in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments, it provides comprehensive treatment for pain, injury, and many medical conditions. Massage works on the soft tissues while adjustments address the hard tissue. This combination helps our patients achieve optimal wellness and mobility.

How often should you get massages?

It’s a good idea to include massage therapy in your regular self-care routine. How often you need one, though, depends on your needs and your goals. Some people use them only for relaxation purposes – and there is nothing wrong with that. If this is your goal, you can limit your therapy sessions to once every three or six weeks.

If you live an active lifestyle, meaning you are in the gym or playing sports, you might need a massage every one to three weeks to keep your body functioning optimally. The same is true if you’re addressing specific concerns, such as an injury or chronic headaches. After a thorough assessment, our team at Center will recommend the best frequency for your needs.

Will my massage hurt?

The goal of a massage is never to hurt you, but there’s always a chance that your therapist will run across a very tense area. If this happens, though, you can speak up and we will stop addressing that area or change our method. Most people feel completely relaxed with the occasional discomfort due to a tense area being treated, and you might feel a bit sore the next day. However, there should never be any pain during a massage.
